Being one of the best-selling video games of all time, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) had a noteworthy multiplayer experience that many gamers will undoubtedly remember. For the first time in the series, it featured Calling Cards (titles), a customization option with text and a stylized background, used to distinguish from player to player. These titles, earned through gameplay progression and challenges, represented the framework of personalization and artistic individuality for future Call of Duty games.
What I adore about these attractive designs is that they encompass so much character and expression within a background and a simple tagline. It's the first instance in the franchise where you are rewarded for your impressive accolades and were able to showcase your achievements to the other players. Unlocking these titles links the player's dedication and competitiveness to their creativity, giving them a unique sense of accomplishment and identity within the game. Whether it's to antagonize the player you just killed or boast a near impossible challenge you achieved, it captures the player's personality with striking artwork and just a few words.
This is an ongoing project where I create my own titles paired with (sometimes absurd) challenges for customization, referencing famous memes, moments, aspects from the game, and the era of the Xbox 360.
